Mechanical effects of Short Circuit current on flexible Strung Bus Conductor :
In extra high voltage substations, bus bars and equipment to equipment connections are formed with aluminum conductors, either stranded flexible or rigid tubular. During flow of the short circuit current through the conductors, considerable magnitude of mechanical force generates between phase conductors during the flow of the high current and also immediately after extinguishing of the short circuit current. The mechanical forces magnitude increases if the phase conductor consists of two or more sub conductors. The magnitude of the force generated must be calculated so that the strength of the support insulator and support steel structure can be verified accordingly. Generally such calculation for mechanical forces is calculated either by IEC 60875 or by IEEE 605.
Over the years, Satcon has delivered such design calculations of mechanical forces due to short circuit currents for various EHV substations of various voltage levels - 400kV, 220kV, 132kV, 33kV etc. Satcon has skilled personnel to deliver such calculations and developed standard formule to perform such engineering designs with short lead time.
